Last reviewed: 6 October 2026 · South Africa-focused
Short answer
RandRoute defaults to the standard 15% rate, but transactions can be zero-rated or treated differently. Confirm the correct treatment rather than applying a rate automatically.

Adding VAT to a price
Multiply a net amount by 1.15 at the standard rate. On R1,000, the VAT portion is R150 and the total is R1,150.
Extracting VAT from an inclusive price
Divide an inclusive amount by 1.15 to estimate the amount before VAT. The difference between the inclusive amount and that result is the VAT portion.
Worked South African example
For example, enter a R30,000 monthly salary, review the indicative PAYE and UIF lines, and then use the estimated take-home amount in a monthly budget.
